Gli ENnie Awards (precedentemente conosciuti come Gen Con EN World RPG Awards) sono un premio annuale, nato nel 2001 e assegnato dai fan ai giochi di ruolo e ai loro editori, che abbraccia ogni aspetto del gioco e del prodotto editoriale.
Il nome del premio deriva dal sito web EN World che ha organizzato, gestito le votazioni e assegnato il premio per le prime 17 edizioni. Oggi EN World è ancora proprietaria del nome, anche se non se ne occupa più dal 2018.
Dal 2002 il premio è assegnato durante Gen Con, la convention più attesa e partecipata dal mondo del gioco di ruolo. Gen Con che ha essa stessa una storia rocambolesca e un po’ assurda sulla sua nascita, magari una volta o l’altra ne parliamo.
Inizialmente focalizzati su prodotti ed editori legati al d20 System, gli ENnie hanno progressivamente incluso tutte le altre forme di giochi di ruolo carta e penna.
Come funzionano gli ENnie?
Gli ENnie sono divisi in tre fasi:
Come prima cosa, gli editori iscrivono i loro prodotti, sottoponendoli a una giuria composta da giudici democraticamente eletti per un mandato di cinque anni;
la giuria in questione sceglie fra questi i cinque finalisti per ogni categoria, tranne per “Product of the Year” (prodotto dell’anno) per cui ci sono 10 finalisti, e il “Fan’s Favourite Publisher” che comprende tutti gli editori. Viene assegnato anche il “Judges’ Sotlight”, una specie di premio della giuria, unica categoria in cui i giocatori non votano;
infine, il pubblico, i giocatori tutti, vota i titoli selezionati attribuendo loro una posizione di gradimento relativo nella loro categoria.
